Saint Patrick's Parish Bulletin

May 13, 2007—6th SUNDAY OF EASTER

The faithful will experience the peace of Christ.

The peace which Jesus speaks is a state of oneness and communion with God. This peace is far more than the absence of conflict; at its centre is God’s presence. The words of Jesus describe this peaceful state well, “Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.”. PEACE AND UNITY AMONG BELIEVERS!

SCRIPTURE READING

May 20 – Ascension of the Lord

  • Acts 1:1-11 “Jesus was lifted up.”
  • Psalm 47 ”God mounts the throne to shouts of joy; a blare of trumpets….”
  • Heb 98:24-28; 10:19-23 “Christ entered into heaven itself.”
  • Luke 24:46-53 “Jesus withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven.”

Parishioners are invited to a meeting with the pastor, Fr. Mabey, on Monday, May 14 at 7:30 pm in St. Patrick’s Parish Hall. The meeting will be to try to understand better the substance and the consequences of the Archbishop’s decision to being together St. Mary’s and St. Patrick’s parishes to form one parish in central Halifax, and to allow parishioners to express themselves on the matter.

Giving Generously ~ Receiving Gratefully.GIVING GENEROUSLY
RECEIVING GRATEFULLY

Today’s reading offers a vision of the City of God, the new Jerusalem. The bishops’ pastoral on stewardship reminds us, “that life to come is in continuity with this present life through human goods and worthy human purposes which people foster now.”

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY
A mother is a blessing, so gentle, kind and wise— The first to give encouragement, the last to criticize. The one you know will be there, whenever skies are gray— The first to lend a helping hand, the last to turn away. Each special thing about her, is so lovely to recall— A mother is a blessing, the most precious of all! Anon

Thank You
The HELLO SISTERS event hosted by Elizabeth’s Place of St. Patrick’s and North End Women last Saturday was a great success! More than 30 women participated in a noon meal and challenging workshops designed to nourish body, mind and spirit. Our grateful thanks to The Segelbert Trust for once again funding this event.

The OUTREACH COMMITTEE thanks parishioners for their “incredible” generosity in support of the Mothers Day gifts for the Parent Resource Centre, Uniacke Square. This is true stewardship!
