Saint Patrick's Parish Bulletin

January 28, 2007 Fourth SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

If I have faith to move mountains,
but do not have LOVE, I am nothing.

Jesus teaches us that we must not live in isolation. To be His followers, we must reach beyond our own circle of family and friends to serve the needs of others.

Love is the root of all goodness; without it, faith is empty and meaningless. Faith and hope are necessary, but the greatest gift of all is Love.

SCRIPTURE READING FOR February 4th

Psalm 138 “In the sight of the angels, I will sing your praises, Lord.”

Luke 5:1-11 “Peter, James and John left everything and followed Jesus.”

***NO MASSES AT HOPE COTTAGE FOR THE NEXT FEW MONTHS***

Love of God

Love of God is the greatest of all virtues. St. Thomas Aquinas declares: “Essentially, the perfection of the Christian life consists in charity, first and foremost in the Love of God, then in the Love of Neighbor.”

Christ’s teaching is direct and positive in the greatest commandment: “Anyone who loves Me will be true to my Word.” How do we practice this love of God? By giving one’s self to God, avoiding sin, praying and meditating, practicing self-denial and conforming to the will of God.

Love of Neighbour

Neighbour does not necessarily mean one who lives nearby, but is a collective term for the entire body of human persons. In order to fulfill this law, one must imitate Christ.

We must love one another. How can God’s love survive in a person who closes one’s heart to one’s brothers and sisters in need? Let us love in deeds and not just in good intentions. True love of neighbour is faithful, unselfish and a source of peace.

STEWARDSHIP
Stewardship at Saint-Patrick's Church.Giving Generously, Receiving Gratefully.

Jeremiah declares that the Lord knew him before he was born and dedicated and appointed him to his role as prophet even before he drew breath.

We, too, are known and sent by the Lord.
What deeds of LOVE and SERVICE
are mine to perform?

Church Food Drive

Thank you most kindly for your weekly donations of food! With rising costs, more and more of our poor are becoming destitute. Most needed are canned goods—meals in a can so to speak—easy and quick—soups, ravioli, spaghettis, stews, canned tuna. Canned juices & cereals are also favorites.
